Oversized Vehicles

Oversized vehicles and trailers, including RVs and campers, may be parked on the street in Cheyenne, subject to several rules, including a seasonal restriction.

Seasonal On-street Parking Restrictions

In Cheyenne, oversized vehicles are not allowed to be parked on the street between five days after Labor Day and five days before Memorial Day. For 2025/2026, this is from Saturday, Sept. 6, 2025, to Wednesday, May 20, 2026.

Oversized vehicles are defined as any vehicle or trailer or combination that exceeds 25 feet in length, 9 feet in height, or 8.5 feet in width. Mirrors, lights, and other safety features on a vehicle do not contribute to this limit.

Vehicles modified to be accessible to those with disabilities, tractor units that are part of a semi-truck, and food trucks are exempt from the seasonal restriction.

Permits are available to allow for on-street parking during the seasonal restriction.

Year-Round Restrictions

At all times of the year, oversized vehicles may be parked on the street with the following rules. This list is not exhaustive and applies to all vehicles, not just oversized vehicles.

  • Vehicles may not leave less than 10 feet of space for traffic on a street.
  • Vehicles must have current registration.
  • Vehicles must be in operable condition and cannot be resting on jacks, blocks, or other devices unless being actively repaired.
  • Vehicles may not block or park within 5 feet of driveways, except on the owner’s own property.
  • Vehicles may not be parked on or blocking a sidewalk.
  • Vehicles must be parked at least 30 feet from an intersection and may not block fire hydrants.

In addition, recreational vehicles may only be parked on street space entirely adjacent to the vehicle owner’s property. For example, a camper may not be parked in front of a neighbor’s property.

Seasonal Restriction On-Street Parking Permit

Permits will be available from the City Clerk’s Office to allow oversized vehicles to park on the street between five days after Labor Day and five days before Memorial Day. Permits are $15 and are valid for 5 days. Permits must be displayed on the oversized vehicle.
