Ward 1 City Council members have selected four candidates for a second round of interviews as part of the process to fill a vacant City Council seat.
David Cook, Maren Kallas, Tamara Trujillo, and Lawrence Wolfe will be interviewed in a panel-style session on Monday, Nov. 3, at 6 p.m. at the Kiwanis Community House.
Like the first round of interviews, the second round of interviews will be open to the public but no public comment will be accepted.
“We want to thank all of the candidates who applied to fill the vacant seat,” Councilman Pete Laybourn said. “We’re looking forward to hearing more during next week’s interviews.”
The first round of interviews concluded on Oct. 29. Thirteen candidates applied for the vacant seat and candidates were interviewed by Councilmen Laybourn and Jeff White.
“Each candidate should be commended for taking the time to apply, interview, and share their vision for our community,” Councilman White said.
Following the second round of interviews on Nov. 3, the Ward 1 councilmen will select one candidate jointly or two candidates individually to present to the full City Council for consideration at Council’s meeting on Monday, Nov. 10.
Council will then vote on the candidate(s) to fill the vacant Ward 1 seat that was held by the late Scott Roybal. If approved, the candidate will be sworn in at the Nov. 10 meeting.
Public comment about the vacancy and final candidate(s) will be accepted prior to Council voting on the nominee(s) on Nov. 10.
All City Council seats are nonpartisan. The selected candidate will complete a term that ends in January 2027. A candidate selected to fill the vacancy would be eligible to run for a full term in 2026.
