Painting of the interior of the Jack R. Spiker Parking Structure continues Aug. 4-15, and users of the parking structure should be aware of the work and potential for wet paint on the first and second levels of the building.
Weather permitting, painting will take place on the second level and continue for one week, after which work will move to the first level for an additional week. The third and fourth levels of the structure have already been painted.
To accommodate drivers who would prefer not to park near the active painting area, the City will open the top level of the garage to parking. Drivers should be aware that at times, fine paint particles may be present throughout the structure while work is ongoing, as particles can become airborne and travel beyond the immediate painting area.
Crews with Pro Coatings Inc. have been working to paint the interior of the Spiker Parking Structure white, which is meant to improve visibility and the perception of safety for garage users. City Council approved the $253,527 project in June.
The painting work is part of a number of improvements the City has made to the parking structure, including new restrooms, improved lighting, and blue light emergency call towers. These projects have been funded through 6th Penny funds approved by voters in 2021.
