Applications open for City Council vacancy

Applications can now be submitted to fill a vacancy on Cheyenne City Council after council members adopted a resolution declaring the vacancy Monday night.

Interested residents in Ward 1 should submit a resume and cover letter outlining their interest in the position by Monday, Oct. 20, at 5 p.m. To be considered for the seat, Ward 1 residents must be:

  • 18 or older,
  • A registered voter in Laramie County, and
  • A resident of Ward 1 for at least 12 months prior to the date of appointment by City Council.

Eligible applicants will be interviewed for the position by Ward 1 councilmembers Pete Laybourn and Jeff White. Those members can either provide a joint recommendation or individual recommendations to City Council for consideration. The position will be filled within 30 days.

The first round of interviews will take place the week of Oct. 27, with the second round the week of Nov. 3. Council is expected to vote to fill the vacancy at its Nov. 10 meeting.

The candidate will fill the term of Councilman Scott Roybal, which expires in January 2027 after the November 2026 elections. A candidate selected to fill the vacancy would be eligible to run for a full term in 2026.
