Kids on Bikes

To kick off a safe and fun summer, join us for the 27th Annual Safe Kids Day on Saturday, May 23, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Laramie County Public Library, 2200 Pioneer Avenue.

Sponsored by Cheyenne Regional Medical Center, the City of Cheyenne, Safe Kids Laramie County, and AAA Wyoming in partnership with the Laramie County Library, the event includes over 20 exhibitors inside the library offering games, ballons, raffles, bike giveaways and other swag. There will be bike helmet giveaways with fittings and adjustments, car seat inspections, and a Bike Rodeo in the parking lot.

Kids should bring a bike if they have one! The Bike Rodeo includes:

  • Bike fittings for seat height, brake and shift levers.
  • Bike mechanical inspections (air, brakes, chains, tire changes).
  • Bike etiquette and hand signals.
  • Bike skills, balance, starting and stopping, riding straight and scanning, signaling.
  • Skills tests such as zig-zag, slow race, figure 8, riding obstacles.
  • “Be ready to ride” training, focusing on safe places to wheel, proper clothing, reflective equipment, moving, stationary, surface and visual hazards.

A family friendly Slow Roll is scheduled at noon. Participants should meet in the City’s north parking lot across from the library. The Slow Roll proceeds at a leisurely pace over the span of an hour and music and conversation fill the streets as you roll along the route.
