Risk Management

The mission of Risk Management is to minimize the total cost of risk to the City of Cheyenne through sound risk management guidance to all operating divisions. Risk Management offers assistance through Loss Control, Safety, Effective Communication and Training in addition to implementing new procedures to minimize the potential loss. Risk Management will continue to provide and obtain appropriate coverage in an effort to ensure the City of Cheyenne is adequately protected.

 Liaison

Risk Management is the designated City representative to the Wyoming Association of Risk Management (WARM), a Joint Powers Board that provides liability and property coverage for the City of Cheyenne and other member entities.

The Services provided by Risk Management are grouped into these three main areas:

Evaluation and Safety

Risk Management inspects City property, vehicles and equipment to evaluate and recommend measures to provide employees with a safe working environment, and monitor compliance with safety requirements. 

Insurance Coverage

Risk Management:
  • Evaluates, determines and provides for City property and vehicular insurance coverage
  • Reviews various licensing and permitting applications pertaining to insurance coverage requirements
  • Reviews and recommends insurance coverage requirements relating to community / private events and activities involving City public property

Training

Risk Management provides employees with safety training on such topics as:
  • Bloodborne pathogens
  • Hazard communications
  • Defensive driving
  • Working in confined spaces
  • Use of personal protective equipment
  • OSHA compliance areas
  • Employee and supervisory liability issues
  • DOT drug and alcohol program training for compliance with Federally mandated testing for employees who are required to hold a commercial driver’s license is also provided
