LWCF Grant Funds Playground Equipment for South Lions Park

Did you know the City of Cheyenne offers 32 playgrounds throughout our community?  The Community Recreation and Events Department manages thousands of acres of property and relies on grant funds to bring you new equipment and amenities that otherwise wouldn’t be possible on the City’s restricted budget.

In 2020, the City applied for and received a Land and Water Conservation Fund grant to replace 25 year old playground equipment that had long passed its useful lifespan.  Not only is the new equipment kid approved, but it is also now in compliance with ADA and CPSI safety standards. The City provided $136,500 in matching and in kind funds from revenue generated from the Community Facilities Fees, for a total project cost of $273,000.

LWCF has provided grant funding over the years to several Lions Park projects.  The park offers an additional playground, picnic shelters, a lake and boat ramp, beach, baseball field, community house, pool and spray park, and large open spaces.
