Several road and utility projects are scheduled for parts of eastern Cheyenne in 2024 and beyond. Together, these projects will improve transportation, safety, and storm sewer and utility capacity in East Cheyenne.

In February 2024, WYDOT, the City of Cheyenne, and Laramie County hosted a public meeting about these projects. You can find the materials presented at the meeting at the link at the bottom of this page.

Information about each project is below. Drivers are urged to use caution in the work zones.

Dell Range/Van Buren

City work on this section begins in April 2024. This project includes:

  • A new storm sewer trunkline along Van Buren Avenue from Dell Range to Rawlins Street
  • Improvements to Dell Range from Van Buren to Whitney Road, including water, sewer, storm sewer, and roadway reconstruction, and
  • Resurfacing of Van Buren Avenue.

Beginning Monday, April 8, Van Buren will close at its intersection with Dell Range and will remain closed for about two weeks. WYDOT has reopened access from Van Buren to U.S. 30 for the duration of this phase.

Beginning Monday, April 15, Dell Range Boulevard will close to all traffic from Van Buren Avenue to Whitney Road. Van Buren Avenue will remain closed at the Dell Range intersection for the first week of this process. Click here for more information.

The final phase of the project will close Van Buren in sections to install new storm sewer infrastructure.

This project will substantially improve stormwater drainage capacity in the area and greatly improve Dell Range Boulevard.

U.S. 30 (Pershing to Christensen)

WYDOT is improving and widening U.S. 30 from Pershing Boulevard to Christensen Road. This work includes:

  • A new Greenway underpass near Dry Creek. The relocated underpass will get the Greenway out of the creek bed, preventing flooding issues,
  • Two travel lanes in each direction with a median and left turn lanes from Pershing to Whitney and a continuous left turn lane from Whitney to Christensen,
  • A full traffic signal at U.S. 30 and Whitney, and
  • Increased lighting throughout the corridor.

Additional Work

The following projects in the area are also planned and this webpage will be updated as more information becomes available:

- Storey Boulevard and Summit Drive: This project will extend Storey Boulevard east to Whitney Road, though asphalt paving may not be completed as part of this project.

- Dell Range (Marble Avenue to Gysel Place): This project is tentatively planned for 2025 and will reconstruct Dell Range and add a traffic signal at Van Buren.

- Whitney and Dell Range: This project is tentatively scheduled for 2026 and will move the Dell Range/U.S. 30 intersection to the west, away from Christensen Road. It will also realign frontage roads connecting to Christensen and add traffic signals at Dell Range and Whitney and Dell Range and U.S. 30.
