Ward 1 Council representatives have jointly selected Lawrence Wolfe as the nominee to fill a vacant Ward 1 seat on City Council.

The full Council will consider and vote on the nominee at Council’s meeting on Monday, Nov. 10.

A vacancy in Ward 1 occurred due to the passing of Scott Roybal in late September. When a vacancy occurs on council, City Code requires the two remaining council members from the vacant seat’s ward to pick a nominee jointly or individually to present to the full council for consideration. Each of Cheyenne’s three wards has three representatives on council.

Ward 1 council members Pete Laybourn and Jeff White took applications from Ward 1 residents and conducted two rounds of interviews to arrive at their nomination.

Thirteen candidates applied to fill the Ward 1 vacancy and met the statutory requirements for the position. The first round of individual interviews occurred on Oct. 28 and 29. The Ward 1 representatives then selected four applicants to participate in a panel-style interview that was held on Nov. 3.

Public comment about the vacancy and final candidate will be accepted prior to Council’s vote on Nov. 10.

All City Council seats are nonpartisan. The selected candidate will complete a term that ends in January 2027. A candidate selected to fill the vacancy would be eligible to run for a full term in 2026.
