Temporary fencing has been installed around three historic railcars recently placed in downtown Cheyenne in preparation for more formal improvements in 2027.
The fencing is meant to help protect the railcars, located near 15th Street, before a permanent structure is in place. The permanent fencing will be part of the next phase of improvements to the 15th Street corridor and will include materials to match what has been installed at the Historic Depot.
The overall 15th Street Experience project will improve 15th Street from the Historic Depot to Bent Avenue through enhanced lighting, landscaping, and streetscape improvements with a focus on Cheyenne’s railroad history. The project will result in a net gain in parking, increase pedestrian and cyclist safety, and will eventually tie into future Greenway connections and the Reed Avenue Corridor Project.
The three railcars – two business/passenger cars and a Union Pacific caboose – will be a focal element in the 15th Street Experience. Due to their size, the cars needed to be placed in the area first, as future improvements will be built around the cars.
