Stormwater fee postponed until April 2026

Collection of the City of Cheyenne stormwater fee will be delayed until April 2026 to ensure that properties with complex ownerships are billed in an efficient and accurate manner.
The fee, which will appear on Board of Public Utilities bills, will fund management and maintenance of stormwater infrastructure in the city. Stormwater infrastructure is located throughout Cheyenne and includes open channels, underground pipes, inlets, and detention ponds, along with other infrastructure.
Property owners can view their estimated fees at www.cheyennecity.org/StormwaterFeeMap. The map also shows stormwater infrastructure the fees will help maintain.
Fees are determined based on the amount of hard surface area on a property, including items like buildings, driveways, and surfacing. The fee is 24 cents per 100 square feet of impervious surface. Most residential properties in Cheyenne will see a fee of less than $10 per month.
Cheyenne’s stormwater system reduces flooding risk and hazards in the city. It includes 135 miles of storm sewer drainage pipes with thousands of inlet points, 25 miles of open channels and creeks, and hundreds of detention ponds. This infrastructure requires regular maintenance and improvements, ranging from channel dredging to inlet maintenance to system upgrades.
As the stormwater system has grown and as the City has absorbed new stormwater infrastructure, City officials determined a dedicated funding source was needed to help maintain the system. Citywide, stormwater impact fees will raise about $6 million per year for the stormwater program. City Council approved the fee schedule in December 2024.
