Rooted in Cheyenne to conduct citywide tree planting event Sept. 21
Published on September 13, 2024
Rooted in Cheyenne will be conducting its 16th neighborhood tree planting event on Saturday, Sept. 21. Local green industry professionals, Rooted in Cheyenne board members, City Forestry staff and volunteers will be planting over 150 trees along Cheyenne’s streets.
Thanks to sponsorship from American Forests and funding from Microsoft, Rooted in Cheyenne will be providing 50 free trees in select neighborhoods that desperately need tree canopy. Motorists are asked to slow down and be cautious of crews planting trees in the right-of-way.
Residents are encouraged to volunteer for the planting event, which runs from 7:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Registration is required before the event and can be done at www.rootedincheyenne.com/events. Both crew leaders and volunteers are needed. Volunteers interested in leading a planting crew should contact the Cheyenne Urban Forestry office directly. All volunteers are provided with a t-shirt, breakfast, and lunch. Volunteers will be paired up with local green industry professionals who will lead crews in proper planting techniques.
Rooted in Cheyenne is a nonprofit responsible for planting over 1,600 street trees since 2017. Rooted in Cheyenne is dedicated to improving Cheyenne’s tree canopy and fostering a program for volunteers and sponsors to make a positive impact in their community.
Rooted in Cheyenne is supported through generous sponsorships from local businesses and organizations. This year’s platinum sponsors are American Forests, Microsoft, Wyoming State Forestry Division, Laramie County Conservation District, Wyoming Community Foundation, and HF Sinclair. The program provides homeowners with low-cost trees to be planted in or adjacent to the public right-of-way. Trees cost $50 and homeowners are allowed 2 trees per planting season.
