CHEYENNE – Rooted in Cheyenne will be conducting their ninth neighborhood tree planting event on Saturday, September 18th.  Members of the community are encouraged to sign up to volunteer at www.rootedincheyenne.com. Volunteers can choose to plant trees in the morning or afternoon. Breakfast, lunch, and a t-shirt will be provided. Volunteers will be paired up with local green industry professionals who will lead crews in planting over 100 trees along Cheyenne’s streets. Motorists are asked to slow down and be cautious of crews planting trees in the right-of-way.

A volunteer appreciation party will follow the planting at 5:00 p.m. at the Eagles Lodge (1600 Thomes Ave.). The public is invited to attend this family friendly event. Games, giveaways, kids’ activities, and drink specials will be included. Excess trees will be available for donations of $200 or more. Also, the winners of an online tree raffle which is currently running through September 18th will be announced. Two radiant crabapple trees are being raffled with proceeds to go to Rooted in Cheyenne. Two winners will receive a 1.5-inch caliper, eight-foot-tall tree planted at their property by volunteers. The cost of the tree, delivery, and planting is over $500 per tree; however, raffle tickets are only $10. Enter by going to Rooted in Cheyenne’s Facebook page.

Rooted in Cheyenne is supported through generous sponsorships from local businesses and non-profits.  This year’s platinum sponsors are Wyoming State Forestry Division, HollyFrontier, and Array School of Technology. The program provides homeowners with low-cost trees to be planted in or adjacent to the public right-of-way. Tree planting, watering, and care for one year is included with every tree purchased.  Trees cost $50 and homeowners are allowed two trees per planting season. More information and applications for next spring’s planting are available on Rooted in Cheyenne’s website at www.rootedincheyenne.com.  Further information and questions may be directed to Cheyenne Urban Forestry Division at 637-6428.  Follow the tree planting event at Rooted in Cheyenne’s Facebook page.
