Rooted in Cheyenne earns statewide Forestry award
Published on October 27, 2025
The Wyoming State Forestry Division is proud to recognize Rooted in Cheyenne as the recipient of the 2025 Outstanding Wyoming Urban and Community Forestry (U&CF) Program Award, presented in partnership with the Wyoming Tree Academy.
Rooted in Cheyenne has demonstrated sustained excellence in community forestry through years of dedicated volunteerism, strong municipal partnerships, and a clear commitment to biodiversity. Since its founding in 2017, the organization has planted over 1,900 street trees across Cheyenne, helping build a more resilient, healthy, and beautiful urban forest for city residents.
This award highlights the importance of local leadership in advancing urban forestry across Wyoming. Community-based programs like Rooted in Cheyenne are critical to the success of the statewide U&CF mission. That mission is to help every Wyoming community plan, plant, and care for trees that improve quality of life, strengthen local ecosystems, and provide lasting public benefit.
“Rooted in Cheyenne has become a model for community forestry in Wyoming,” said Jacob Mares, Urban & Community Forestry Program Manager for WSFD. “Their focus on outreach, education, and biodiversity shows what can be achieved when citizens and municipalities work hand in hand to care for the urban forest.”
The Outstanding U&CF Program Award was presented during the 2025 Wyoming Tree Academy, held in Sheridan on September 25–26, where more than 125 professionals gathered to advance tree care and biodiversity practices across the state.
WSFD congratulates Rooted in Cheyenne, the City of Cheyenne Urban Forestry Division, and all partners and volunteers whose ongoing efforts make Cheyenne a leader in community-driven urban forestry.
