On-street oversized vehicle restriction begins September 2025
Published on August 08, 2025
A seasonal restriction on oversized vehicles parked on city streets begins next month, and vehicle owners should be prepared for the change.
Beginning five days after Labor Day on Saturday, Sept. 6, oversized vehicles may not be parked on the street with some exceptions. The restriction ends May 20, 2026.
Oversized vehicles are defined as any vehicle or trailer or combination that exceeds 25 feet in length, 9 feet in height, or 8.5 feet in width. Mirrors, lights, and other safety features on a vehicle do not contribute to this limit.
Vehicles modified to be accessible to those with disabilities, tractor units that are part of a semi-truck, and food trucks are exempt from the seasonal restriction.
Permits will be available from the City Clerk’s Office to temporarily allow oversized vehicles to park on the street when the seasonal restriction is in place. Permits are $15, valid for 5 days, and must be displayed on the oversized vehicle. Permits will be available online or in-person at the City Clerk’s Office prior to Labor Day 2025.
In addition, when parked on the street, oversized vehicles must follow the same parking rules as all other vehicles, including:
- Vehicles may not leave less than 10 feet of space for traffic on a street.
- Vehicles must have current registration.
- Vehicles must be in operable condition and cannot be resting on jacks, blocks, or other devices unless being actively repaired.
- Vehicles may not block or park within 5 feet of driveways, except the owner’s own driveway.
- Vehicles may not be parked on or blocking a sidewalk.
- Vehicles must be parked at least 30 feet from an intersection and may not block fire hydrants.
Recreational vehicles may only be parked on street space entirely adjacent to the vehicle owner’s property. For example, a camper may not be parked in front of a neighbor’s property.
The Cheyenne Police Department enforces parking violations in Cheyenne. Violations or concerns can be reported to the Department’s Community Service Officers at cpdcso@cheyennepd.org or by calling the dispatch non-emergency line at 307-637-6525.
The seasonal restriction was enacted by City Council in December 2024. The annual restriction runs from five days after Labor Day to five days before Memorial Day.
