The Cheyenne Metropolitan Planning Organization is beginning the update of the long-range transportation plan for the Cheyenne area, and residents are invited to participate in the process.

The plan, known as Connect 2050, will serve as a blueprint for Cheyenne’s transportation system. It will cover Cheyenne and the immediate area around the city and will help direct federal transportation funding in the region.

The plan sets eight key goals:

  1. Safety: Transportation facilities provide safe travel options for all residents and visitors.
  2. Growth: Stimulate growth in the economy, development, and tourism by providing a transportation system that accommodates current and future demand for the movement of residents, visitors, and goods.
  3. Integration: Integrate transportation and land use decisions to create and preserve neighborhoods that promote vibrant community character and encourage active living.
  4. Choices: Provide travel choices that are accessible to all travelers, promote local mobility, and reduce the impacts of transportation on the environment and neighborhoods.
  5. Efficiency: Optimize the use of existing infrastructure and opportunistic funding options to make prudent investments in the transportation network to maintain system predictability.
  6. Connectivity: Develop and maintain a multimodal transportation system that provides direct, continuous, and safe connections between local and regional destinations and services.
  7. Resiliency: Design transportation facilities and networks so they are secure and resilient to impacts from manmade or natural disasters.
  8. Maintenance: Extend the life of the transportation system and promote fiscal responsibility by emphasizing maintenance over system expansion.

Local residents are invited to review the proposed project list and take a brief survey at plancheyenne.org/connect-2050/.

Cheyenne MPO staff will also be at the Bike to Work Day after work event on Pioneer Avenue between Lincolnway and 15th Street on Wednesday, June 25, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. to answer questions about the plan update.
