Today, Laramie County Senior Services, Inc. (LCSS) broke ground on the Laramie County Senior Center, a project that is the result of the successful sixth-penny sales tax ballot approved by Laramie County voters in November of 2021. Cheyenne Mayor Patrick Collins, Laramie County Commissioners and representatives from the Wyoming Housing Authority joined community members to celebrate the official start of construction for this vital hub for the area’s senior citizens. “This groundbreaking represents a key investment in the people of Cheyenne and Laramie County,” said Mayor Patrick Collins. “This new center will fulfill a great need for our community and provide great value to our seniors for years to come.” “With today’s groundbreaking, we are thrilled to be improving access to better lives for Laramie County’s seniors,” said Laramie County Commissioner Troy Thompson. “The citizens of Laramie County voted to move this project forward and our community will benefit greatly from their decision. This is a big milestone to celebrate.” “Providing a space to accommodate our growing senior population is crucial,” said Greg Hancock, Executive Director of the Cheyenne Housing Authority. “This new location will help meet that need while promoting greater health and well-being in our community. We are grateful to our county commissioners who initiated this important project and to Mayor Patrick Collins for his incredible support.” The center will offer dedicated parking for seniors, enhanced accessibility with a bus route stop, and closer proximity to nearby senior housing. Nutrition, caregiver, and social service programs currently offered through the downtown center will continue and will be expanded in the new location once construction is complete. For more than 50 years the Cheyenne Housing Authority and its Board of Commissioners has supported the growth and success of Laramie County Senior Services while providing meals, senior exercise and recreational activities, family caregiver and other services to the fastest growing portion of Laramie County’s population.
