CHEYENNE – Cheyenne Fire Rescue (CFR) responded to a residential structure fire in the 1000 block of W. 19th St. on Thursday afternoon. Crews were dispatched at 12:45 p.m. and arrived on scene at 12:48 p.m. The structure fire was under control by 12:55 p.m. and crews cleared the scene at 2:13 p.m.
CFR arrived to find smoke coming from vents on the roof of the single-family structure. Upon entering, fire was found to be in the attic. The fire was isolated and quickly extinguished with damage to the home resulting from the contents of the fire, extinguishment activities, and water. Due to the location of the fire, CFR created a large hole in the ceiling to reach the source of the fire and ensure complete extinguishment. Occupants of the structure were able to safely evacuate.
Cause of the fire was due to an electric overload with combustibles nearby. Smoke alarms were located but did not activate. CFR reminds residents to routinely test smoke alarms, change batteries if needed, and purchase adequate fire insurance.
American Medical Response (AMR) and the Cheyenne Police Department (CPD) assisted CFR on scene.
