National Walking Day is this Wednesday, April 3, and the City of Cheyenne encourages residents to grab a pair of sneakers and take 30 minutes to enjoy the City’s outdoor spaces.

The American Heart Association, the nation’s oldest and largest organization dedicated to fighting heart disease and stroke, established National Walking Day in 2007 to encourage people to move more throughout their day.

This year is the AHA’s centennial and communities across the country are invited to raise awareness of the benefits of movement.

Some suggestions to make that 30-minute walk more enjoyable include:

  • Wear comfortable clothes.
  • Take a friend or pet to pass the time.
  • Make sure to stretch those muscles.
  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Move your arms, too.
  • Make sure you have good posture.
  • If you work remotely, take a conference call on the go.

Get on the Greenway trail or go to one of Cheyenne’s beautiful parks or just walk around your neighborhood. Your mind and body will thank you! Have a wonderful National Walking Day!
