Draft Safety Action Plan for area roads open for public comment
Published on May 21, 2026
Cheyenne residents are invited to review and comment on the draft Safe Streets for All Comprehensive Safety Action Plan for streets and roads in the Cheyenne area.
The Safety Action Plan outlines projects and steps local government and the community can make to reduce and ultimately eliminate traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries across the region. The Cheyenne Metropolitan Planning Organization is leading the effort.
The plan combines crash data analysis (2020–2024), stakeholder and community input, and a systemic safety assessment to identify key safety challenges and prioritize investments. It is intended to guide near-term implementation while supporting long-term policy, funding, and partnership decisions.
Community feedback played an important role in shaping the draft plan. Through surveys, interactive mapping, and community events, residents shared concerns about speeding, unsafe intersections and crossings, walking and biking conditions, and visibility and lighting challenges.
The analysis found that a small portion of the transportation network accounts for many serious crashes, speeding and impairment are key contributing factors, and people walking and biking face increased risk of serious injury.
Using this information, the plan identifies a High Injury Network (HIN), representing the roads and intersections where safety improvements have the greatest potential to reduce serious crashes.
