Cheyenne property owners can see their upcoming stormwater fees using a new mapping tool.

The fees, which will begin Jan. 1, 2026, will fund management and maintenance of stormwater infrastructure in the city. Stormwater infrastructure is located throughout Cheyenne and includes open channels, underground pipes, inlets, and detention ponds, along with other infrastructure.

Property owners can view their fees at www.cheyennecity.org/StormwaterFeeMap. The map also shows stormwater infrastructure the fees will help maintain.

Fees are determined based on the amount of hard surface area on a property, including items like buildings, driveways, and surfacing. Most residential properties in Cheyenne will see a fee of less than $10 per month, and fees will appear on residents’ BOPU utility bills.

Cheyenne’s stormwater system reduces flooding risk and hazards in the city. It includes 135 miles of storm sewer drainage pipes with thousands of inlet points, 25 miles of open channels and creeks, and hundreds of detention ponds. This infrastructure requires regular maintenance and improvements, ranging from channel dredging to inlet maintenance to system upgrades.

As the stormwater system has grown and as the City has absorbed new stormwater infrastructure, City officials determined a dedicated funding source was needed to help maintain the system. Citywide, stormwater impact fees will raise about $6 million per year for the stormwater program. City Council approved the fee schedule in December 2024.
