Cheyenne Fire Rescue responded to a residential fire this afternoon, July 2, 2025, assisting one resident in evacuating the home as well as saving a pet cat.
Around 12:33 p.m., a fire was reported in the 900 block of East 23rd Street. The report indicated that a fire was in the kitchen area of the residence and the homeowner was trapped inside and becoming overwhelmed by smoke.
BC1 (Battalion Chief) arrived on scene at approximately 12:35 p.m. and observed moderate dark smoke coming from the structure. The front door was locked, and BC1 forced entry and was able to hear the homeowner calling for help inside the smoke-filled home.
Engine 5 arrived shortly thereafter and deployed immediately as a rescue asset. CFR firefighters were able to quickly locate the homeowner, extricate them from the residence, and transfer them to awaiting AMR medical personnel. They were transported to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center for evaluation and treatment of injuries sustained in the fire.
Subsequent arriving CFR crews established a water supply and initiated an interior fire attack in the kitchen area.
Firefighters completed a primary search of the residence and were able to locate and rescue the homeowner’s cat. CFR and AMR personnel performed life-saving measures on the animal before it was transported to Broadmoor East Veterinary Clinic by Laramie County Animal Control for continued care.
After the fire was controlled, CFR crews conducted overhaul operations in the kitchen and ventilated the home to remove smoke. Community Risk Reduction (CRR) personnel remained on scene to support fire investigation efforts.
Cheyenne Fire Rescue was assisted on scene by the Cheyenne Police Department, American Medical Response (AMR), Laramie County Animal Control, and Black Hills Energy.
