Published on May 17, 2026
Cheyenne Fire Rescue (CFR) responded Saturday evening, May 16, 2026, to a reported structure fire at 1504 Dillon Ave., home of the Historic Pumphouse. Initial dispatch was received at 9:29 p.m. and CFR responded with four fire engines, one ladder truck, one Battalion Chief, and one support unit, totaling 19 firefighters.
Engine 1 arrived on scene at 9:32 p.m. within three minutes of dispatch, and crews observed heavy smoke and fire coming from the roof. Battalion Chief 1 (BC1) assumed incident command and, given the significant fire conditions and structural concerns, directed crews to employ defensive firefighting tactics. This approach prioritizes firefighter safety while aggressively containing and controlling the fire.
At 10:46 p.m., crews successfully extinguished the fire using aerial master streams, handlines, and coordinated defensive fire attack operations. The structure was thoroughly searched, confirming no occupants were present. No injuries were reported.
Fire crews continued to monitor the scene into the early morning hours of May 17, addressing hotspots discovered at approximately 5:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. CFR personnel remain on standby to respond to any additional smoldering hotspots.
CFR's Community Risk Reduction (CRR) fire inspectors remained on scene to support the fire investigation. Crews have also boarded up the structure to secure the site and ensure public safety.
CFR extends its gratitude to the following agencies for their assistance: Cheyenne Police Department (CPD), American Medical Response (AMR), Laramie County Fire District #1, Laramie County Fire Authority, and Wyoming Air National Guard Fire Department.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by CFR's fire inspectors and the CPD.
