CFR to place first ambulance in service during washdown ceremony

Cheyenne Fire Rescue will place its first ambulance into service during a washdown and push-in ceremony at Fire Station #3, 720 Hanson St. on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2026.

The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. and is open to residents and members of the media.

The ambulance marks the first time in the department’s history that Cheyenne Fire Rescue will provide emergency medical transport capability. It will help support AMR in providing emergency medical services to the community and is not a replacement for AMR’s services.

“This is a significant milestone in the history of our department,” said Don Wood, Deputy Chief of Emergency Services. “It is only right that we honor where we came from as we look toward the future with this addition to our fleet. This ambulance will be the next step on that journey.”

The washdown and push-in is a time-honored tradition in the fire service, recalling the era of horse-drawn apparatus, when the horse and wagon would be washed down prior to being placed in service and the crew would then push the wagon back into the station.

Department leadership credited community partners for helping make the addition possible.

“Cheyenne Fire Rescue would not be at this milestone without the support of our community partners such as AMR, City of Cheyenne leadership, and, most importantly, our citizens,” Wood said. “We look forward to celebrating this historic occasion together.”
