If you’re like us, you’ve missed going to the theater and attending concerts. Believe me, the Civic Center crew has missed you too! Earlier this year, the U.S. Small Business Administration announced a ‘Shuttered Venue’ grant to help venues like ours recover some of their lost revenue due to forced shutdowns during the pandemic. In early August, the City of Cheyenne was awarded over $900,000 to help cover operating expenses for the past year, freeing up funds for some budget items and equipment that will benefit performers and guests alike.
The Cheyenne Civic Center was brought to life in 1981 to “enhance our lives and increase our opportunity for cultural growth and further allow artistic endeavor to thrive,” said then Mayor Don Erickson. Operations have resumed and the calendar is filling up fast as staff works hard to bring you a wide variety of entertainment options. The Shuttered Venue Operators Grant (SVOG) program was established by the Economic Aid to Hard-Hit Small Businesses, Nonprofits, and Venues Act, and amended by the American Rescue Plan Act. The program includes over $16 billion in grants to shuttered venues, to be administered by SBA’s Office of Disaster Assistance.
