CHEYENNE – Members of Cheyenne Fire Rescue (CFR), Wyoming Highway Patrol, and select students throughout the state will participate in Child Passenger Safety Technician Training, December 1st through 4th.

Following training, newly certified technicians, under the supervision of Child Passenger Safety Technician instructors, will perform free child safety seat checks for families on Saturday, December 4th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at CFR Headquarters (716 W. 19th St.).

The training is standardized by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and was developed because of the increasingly complex issues involved in child passenger safety and unintentional injuries, including motor vehicle crashes, as they continue to be a leading cause of death and injury to children.

Topics covered during the four-day course include: basics of injury prevention, crash dynamics, vehicle occupant protection systems, selection of child passenger restraints, correct installation of child safety seats, misuse and compatibility issues, safety in other vehicles, and the child safety seat check-up event on December 4th.
