REC CAMP LEADER
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
General Statement of Duties: Responsible for operation of the summer Rec
Camp on site, under the direction of the Rec Camp
Director. Leads activities and supervises participants
enrolled in outdoor recreation program.
Supervision Received: Works under the direct supervision of the Rec Camp
Director and/or Assistant Director and the general
supervision of the Recreation Coordinator.
Supervision Exercised: Exercises supervision over Rec Camp Assistant Leaders
(volunteers) and youth enrolled in
activity.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: (Any one position may not include all of
the listed duties nor do the listed examples include all
tasks which may be found in positions of this class.)
Creates daily schedule of organized activities, limiting
“free time” of participants.
Makes assignments and gives direction to Assistant Leader(s)
for activities planned for each day.
Provides input on activities for program participants.
Leads specific activities at program site.
Supervises participants to assure enjoyment of activities in
a safe and
positive environment.
Maintains control of equipment and supplies for rec camp activities.
Takes daily attendance and periodic counts to assure safety
of all participants.
Assumes responsibility for disciplinary actions involving
participants, within guidelines provided.
Administers program records as directed.
Performs related work as required and/or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Considerable knowledge of
the operation of a municipal playground program. Skill in
the supervision, motivation, and control of children ages 6
to 11. Considerable knowledge of the functions, policies,
operating procedures, rules, and regulations of the recreation
division. Ability to lead and supervise
subordinate employees.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with employees, the public, and other agencies.
Strong ability to communicate with fellow employees and
ability to communicate program policies, procedures and
divisional activity information to the general public in a
concise manner.
Education: Graduation from accredited high school, G.E.D.,
or equivalent combination of education and experience which
provides a general knowledge of education and recreation
practices and procedures.
Experience: A minimum of one years experience working in a
Rec Camp.
OR
Any equivalent combination of education or experience.
