REC CAMP ASSISTANT DIRECTOR
 

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
General Statement of Duties: Performs supervisory work in planning and directing all phases of city-wide Rec Camp.

Supervision Received: Works under the direction of the Rec Camp Director and Recreation Coordinator and the general supervision of the Sr. Recreation Programmer and Recreation Superintendent.

Supervision Exercised: Exercises supervision over Rec Camp leaders, assistants (volunteers) and participants.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: (Any one position may not include all of the duties listed nor do the listed examples include all tasks which may be found in positions of this class.)

Assists in planning and supervising summer Rec Camp.
When necessary directs leaders and assistants (volunteers) in their duties.
Organizes and leads specific activities related to Rec Camp. Makes sure program runs smoothly.
Works many hours on site during rec camp hours as well as organizational hours in preparation for daily/weekly
activities.
Communicates with the public in a positive manner, responsible for good public relations.
Carries out ongoing evaluation of the program and its activities and staff.
Assists Professional Program Staff with Special Events.
Performs related work as required.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Thorough knowledge and skills needed to direct and lead activities and events
involving a high degree of organization for youth of the community. Knowledge of equipment and supplies necessary for youth programs and activities. Ability to work effectively with leaders, participants, and parents as well as the ability to work well with other employees and department officials. Ability to react positively to unexpected situations or occurrences during activities being taught, led, or supervised.

Education: Preferably a junior or senior working towards graduation from a four (4) year college or university with
major emphasis and course work in Recreation or Physical Education or closely related field.

Experience: One (1) summer's experience as Rec Camp Leaderin a comprehensive municipal recreation program preferred.

OR

Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Driver's License: Must have an up to date Driver's License.
Must have an up to date Wyoming Driver's License within 30 days of employment.
