Planning Commission Meeting Information
The Department of Planning & Development
was formed in 2000 by combining Engineering, Development and Planning into
one Department. The Department provides services in the areas of Urban
Planning, Land Development, Zoning, Building Code Enforcement, Housing and
Community Development, Historic Preservation, Capital Improvement
Engineering Design and Construction Administration, Traffic Engineering,
Surface Water Engineering, Pavement Management, and Geographic Information
System Services. The City/County Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO)
also resides within the Department for administrative purposes.
Planning and Development Department
activities include: administration, implementation and enforcement of
development and zoning processes, laws and ordinances for the City and the
County; coordination of plan review for all tracts, parcel maps, and
improvement plans related to private development; providing Community
Development and Housing and Urban Development support services; providing
efficient and effective building code enforcement for the City and the
County; preservation of our historic heritage; providing design,
advertisement, construction, inspection, and successful completion of all
Capital Improvement Projects for the City; assuring safe and efficient
traffic movement, implementation of addressing policies and ordinances; and
administration of the public rights-of-way.
