The Parks & Recreation Department Director manages the overall operation of Parks & Recreation, supervising the seven divisions which carry out operations emphasizing provision of quality parks and recreation services and programs including beautification, grounds maintenance, capital improvements, facilities and activities.

MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Parks and Recreation Department is to provide recreation activities, leisure services, facilities and general amenities to the public in the most cost-effective manner possible. Through the provision of lifelong recreational opportunities, the City contributes positively to the quality of life for citizens of all ages.

DEPARTMENTAL EMPLOYMENT

The Parks & Recreation Department offers a variety of employment opportunities on a seasonal or part-time basis in the areas of grounds maintenance, instructional programs, sports leagues, etc. The Department encourages individuals with special talents who are seeking part-time employment to contact the City Human Resources Office for an application form, (307) 637-6340.

Volunteers are involved in all aspects of departmental operations and individuals are encouraged to contact the specific division they have interest in for discussion of opportunities.

BENEFITS ARE ENDLESS PROGRAM

In each issue of the Parks & Recreation Program Publication and in a variety of promotional work to be done by the Department, we will begin to focus on the benefits of our operations to the community. This program is part of a nationwide effort to increase awareness of the benefits of parks and recreation and is coordinated nationally through the National Parks & Recreation Association.

PROGRAM AND OPERATIONAL CONCERNS

The Parks and Recreation Department provides a variety of facilities and services to Cheyenne residents and visitors through a system of seven divisional operations. Concerns related to any of the services or facilities provided through this department may be addressed by a specific division or may involve issues that require departmental or city attention. When citizens have concerns, suggestions or wish to discuss policies or procedures, they are encouraged to write the department with specifics in care of:
