Claudia Ryan Angelos, City Attorney
The City Attorney's Office provides necessary legal services for the Mayor, City Council, City
Departments, Boards and Commissions. Tasks include advising the Mayor and City Council on
legal issues, answering legal questions in the form of opinions for various City staff,
and representing the City in lawsuits. Other services include preparing, reviewing and
approving as to form all ordinances, resolutions and contracts between the City and
vendors.
The City Attorney's Office
has a duty to serve the City Council and City government and is not allowed to give legal
advice to individual citizens. Our office can provide citizens with a copy of an ordinance
or statute but may not render any interpretation or legal opinion. If citizens need
answers to legal questions, they need to contact either their own private attorney, the
Wyoming State Bar Association (307) 632-9061 for attorney referrals, or the Legal Services
Program at (307) 634-1566.
Municipal Court
The City Attorney's Office is
also responsible for the prosecution of violations of municipal ordinances. If you have
been charged with a violation of the City ordinances, you must appear at your initial
arraignment and plead not guilty or guilty. If you plead guilty, a sentence will be
imposed. If you plead not guilty, the Municipal Court will set a trial date. The
City Attorney's Office becomes involved in your case if a trial has been set, and will discuss a
possible plea bargain with you or your attorney, and the charging police officer.
