The Cheyenne Housing and Community Development (H&CD) Office is looking for three volunteers for their Advisory Council. If you are interested in serving on a dynamic council please fill out the application and send it to the H&CD Office. If you have any questions you may call 637-6252.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT PROGRAM

Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) is an entitlement program that is administered through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Communities with populations greater than 50,000 are entitlement communities and automatically receive a grant. The grant amount is based on population size and the number of low- to moderate-income persons in the community. The City of Cheyenne has been receiving the CDBG entitlement grant since 1975.

The national objectives of CDBG/HOME programs are:

to benefit very low to moderate income
to prevent or eliminate slum and blight areas
to increase home ownership.

HAND Program

The HAND program is a local housing rehabilitation project that provides funding to low- and moderate-income households. Minor rehabilitation repairs can be addressed through the HAND Program. The requirements and income guidelines can be explained in further detail by contacting the Housing & Community Development Office.

HOME Rehabilitation Program

The HOME program is a local housing rehabilitation project that provides funding to low- and moderate-income households. Extensive rehabilitation repairs can be addressed through the HOME rehabilitation program. The requirements and income guidelines can be explained in further detail by contacting the Housing & Community Development Office.

Curb, Gutter and Sidewalk Funds

The Curb, Gutter and Sidewalk Funds are provided to give assistance to low- and moderate-income families, including elderly and handicapped persons, to address City Ordinances requiring property owners to pay for reconstruction of curb, gutter and sidewalk when the City is undertaking street reconstruction in older neighborhoods, particularly in the Community Development Target neighborhoods. The definition of low income is derived from HUD Section 8 HUD Section 8 Income Guidelines.

Tree Removal Program

The Tree Removal Program is designed to provide money to lower income property owners to remove trees on the public right-of-way that present a safety hazard. It is also done on private property if it poses a safety hazard to the dwelling near the tree. The requirements and income limitations can be discussed further by contacting the Housing & Community Development Office.

Cheyenne Homebuyer’s Opportunity Program (CHOP)

CHOP is a partnership between the Cheyenne Lenders & Housing and Community Development Office.  Investing in low to moderate-income individuals and their families to provide an opportunity to purchase affordable housing. Interested persons should contact their local lenders to begin the "paperwork" to qualify for the program. When you have pre-qualified have your lender submit your documentation to the Housing & Community Development Office. Applicants will then contact a realtor and begin shopping for their future home.
